A light designed for a staircase in a privare house in Espoo, Finland. The light provides interesting views when approached either from above or below. The shadows formed by the shapes of the stainless steel and the hanging cords, create a facinating play of light on the white rendered walls.
The light shade is made of stainless steel, hand moulded to form four undulating panels which stretch across the stairwell. The spaces between the four panels hide the lightbulbs which hang from the ceiling on red fabric cords.
The design of the light also reflects the architecture of the house which is part of a small development designed by Erkki Kairamo. The houses are simple two storey buildings with red steel detailing on stairs, handrails etc.
