Working within the linear, mixed use communities in Newburn, to the west of Newcastle city centre, the aim was to resolve issues of conflict between the long established residential communities and a mixture of old and new industrial uses lining the river Tyne.
In addition the plans were to propose measures to improve the success of the largely vacant Newburn Riverside Industrial Park and improve the image of the residential areas. A range of proposals were developed in consultation with the council, local stakeholders and the community.
The plans updated the proposed mix of uses in the industrial area to enable the inclusion of leisure and commercial uses and suggested moving the location of a proposed roadbridge to improve connections between the two riverside communities, access to jobs as well as overall access to the area. In addition a range of physical improvements were suggested to improve quality of life in the residential communities.
